Due to the higher resolution of 4k monitors compared to the 2k monitors, the 4k monitors have extra pixels, and extra pixels produce brilliant displays due to the increased amount of content they can produce on the screen, thus displaying sharper objects.
But, now, as we all know that for a smoother motion we need 60 fps, and unfortunately, due to some technological limitations for 4k, it gets very difficult to obtain 60 fps. While for 2k monitors, one can have 60 fps quite easily. So, it’s not about the higher resolution alone but also the frame rate with which it can coordinate.
Higher resolution monitors help you view more content on the screen, which means you have more details of the image being displayed or the screen content. The content will not be seen broken into pixels which would have been the case with smaller resolutions.
So, the higher the resolution, the more the content on the screen, and the lesser is thus then the need to scroll down the screen. But from 2k and 4k monitors, we recommend that both are high-resolution monitors and will not make much difference for someone who has to deal with applications like Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. 4k monitors are very expensive and thus are not considered worth it for office work. That is why 2k monitors are recommended if you have a small budget, but if your budget allows, you can go for better resolution as well.

Programmers are mainly dealing with texts only, and hence there is no need for higher resolutions as the text is displayed perfectly readable with lower resolutions as well. As mentioned above, the higher resolution screens display more content. That can be beneficial for a programmer as programmers need to view loads and loads of content side-by-side, but buying a 4k monitor only for this purpose will not be economical. You can go for multiple monitors instead. Also, there are times when programmers are to code for images, and they do need higher resolution monitors.
